Group of Mursi tribes’ women of the lower Omo Valley. Notice only one woman has a lip plate. These days it’s not uncommon for young women of marriageable age to decide to not have a lip plate inserted into their lower lip. The scarification patterns seen on the arms are done by cutting the skin with a razor blade and inserting ash inside the wound. The infected skin then raises creating scar tissue.
