Hamer Tribe - Portrait Colour
Hamer women with their ochre fringed hair are very striking to look at. They are the most fashionable of the Omo tribes and most women still wear the traditional goat skin beaded skirts. This woman’s status is identifiable by the necklaces she wears. This young woman is not yet married because she wears beads around her neck. A married woman has a plain iron necklace signifying she’s the second or third wife, the first wife wears a torque shaped necklace. Hamer men can have up to three wives.
